Graveyard Keeper 2 Research Table — Where the Study Table Is & How Studying Works

Research Table (Study Table) — Location & How Studying Works

Quick answer: The Study Table is already built inside the Alchemy Lab in the tower — not where the tutorial sends you. It runs on Science points made by decomposing paper items on the table itself.

Where it is

  • The tutorial points you toward the church basement — ignore that. The Study Table stands in the tower's Alchemy Lab.
  • In the demo only one existed and a second could not be built. TBD: whether the retail build lets you build additional Study Tables.
  • Build cost in the demo data (for reference): 2 Wooden Planks + 3 Bronze Details.

How studying works

  1. Make Science: decompose paper items at the Study Table — Clean Paper = 1 Science, Science Kit I = 30, Science Kit II = 60. The demo contained only about 31 Science in total, which is what forced the hard budgeting. The retail build has more paper available, so the retail budget is TBD rather than 31.
  2. Study items: each item can be studied exactly once (all organs of a kind count as one item; all quality versions of a crop/drink count as one). Studying pays 10–150 tech points at once, reveals the item's alchemy runes, and does not consume the item.
  3. Alchemy gate: an unstudied ingredient cannot enter the Laboratory — it shows "Runes: ???".

Requirements & tips

  • No mastery level is needed to use the table. Study speed scales with Book writing mastery; the Researcher perk cuts time and energy.
  • Zombies cannot work the Study Table.
  • Study cost can include Faith for certain items, drawn from your backpack/storage.

Why planning still matters

Paper is the scarce input, so researching the wrong items wastes it. In the demo a widely shared research list (Sand, Water, Blood, Salt, Stone, Tin, Melted Fat, Peat, Copper Nugget, Onion, Flax, Honey, Beeswax, Zombie Goo) cost 29 of the 31 available points — plan before you study.

The retail build has a larger tree and more paper, so that exact list is no longer a hard constraint. See health potions for what to spend research on, and Technology for the corrected retail node costs.
