Graveyard Keeper 2 Fishing — How to Get the Rod, Catch Fish & Bait Guide

Graveyard Keeper 2 Fishing Guide

Quick answer: Your first rod is free — finish the Twins' quest "Two Peas in a Pod" by delivering 6 Clay Plates and Jeffry hands one over. Bait is craftable in the retail build: all three baits are made at the Kitchen Table, and each batch produces 4. When you see a yellow exclamation mark, strike with Spacebar or left mouse (controller: A).

How to get the fishing rod

  1. Advance the main story until the Merchant in the village gives you the commission "Two Peas in a Pod" (if he won't talk, push the main quests until he's home).
  2. Go across the river into Twins Land and find Jeffry.
  3. Bring him 6 Clay Plates — made at the Potter's Wheel from clay (see pottery and clay). One shovel dig of 4 clay converts into exactly 6 plates.

Until this quest is done you cannot buy or craft a rod anywhere. The quest rod is the gate.

Rods you can craft later

The Basic Rod is close to useless in the Port region — if you're fishing there, upgrade to the Amateur Rod.

Fishing technology cost

Fishing I–IV sit in the Farming branch at 15 / 25 / 75 / 100 Green.

In practice Fishing IV does not cost points — it unlocks through the objective "Plenty of Fish in the Sea" (give the Twins 3 Flax Thread), which is why the 100 Green figure is best read as the node's nominal listed cost.

Requirements before you can fish

  • Keep the rod on your hotbar — the character won't fish with it in storage.
  • Unlock the Fishing I skill in the tree (the prompt only appears after that).
  • At least 1 Farming mastery (earned with the shovel on your toolbar).

How the fishing minigame works

  1. Cast. How long a bite takes has no sourced figure — treat the cast-to-bite wait as TBD.
  2. On the bite you get a yellow exclamation mark. Strike immediately with Spacebar or left mouse button (controller: A).
  3. While the marker is on screen, keep pulling the line.
  4. The moment the marker disappears into a fight phase, let go. Holding through the fight phase turns the rod and line red and snaps the line — release, then pull again when the marker returns.

If the line snaps or the fish reaches full distance, it's gone.

Bait

All three baits are crafted at the Kitchen Table, and every batch yields 4:

Bait is consumed at cast regardless of whether you catch anything.

Entries marked TBD are fish the source lists without tagging a bait; they're left unset rather than guessed.

Why fishing fails ("I don't have the right bait")

This message means the spot currently holds nothing you can catch — it fires at night, in rain, and when local stock is exhausted. It's a gate, not a bug. Each spot holds a fixed stock and restocks slowly; restock timing is not verified.

Uses for fish

Caught fish drop beside the water, feed the Fisher inspiration, and fish meat converts into town gratitude at the weekly trade cap (5 fish meat → 2 gratitude).
