Graveyard Keeper 2 Energy & Tired — How to Restore Energy, Sleep & Save
Graveyard Keeper 2 Energy & Tired Guide
Quick answer: Energy is the blue bar in the top-left. Every work swing costs a fixed amount (shown in the crafting window) and the character simply stops when empty. Eat to restore it instantly. Tired is separate — it arrives after roughly two in-game days without sleeping, and sleeping is the game's only save.
Energy basics
- Each action costs a fixed amount of energy; you never faint — work just halts with an empty-energy icon.
- Food restores energy instantly. Bread is clearly better than berries or mushrooms — mushrooms "barely dent your energy bar". This is what makes the Gardening → Millstone → Bread chain the practical way to keep the bar topped up.
- Berry Pie: +30 Energy (and −3 Insanity). Croissant is often cited at +20 Energy but that value is TBD.
- Energy Potions exist, but their restored values are TBD post-launch.
- Insanity does not lower your maximum one-for-one. The purple bar occupies a stretch of the energy bar and pushes the ceiling down, and eating cannot refill the portion it has taken over.
Tired — what it actually does
Tired is not triggered by energy hitting zero. It arrives after roughly two in-game days without sleeping, shown as a blue "Zz" icon at the top-centre of the HUD. While Tired is active:
- Every action costs extra energy, and Insanity builds faster.
- Insanity-reducing effects are reported to work less effectively (demo-era reports; no retail confirmation of the amount).
- Every energy point you spend also adds Insanity — demo-era data put this near +0.5 per point (unverified).
- Only sleeping in your bed clears it. No food, no potion, no walking it off.
Insanity & food
Sleeping only helps while you are Tired (Zz icon lit) — sleeping when you are not Tired refills the purple energy bar but does nothing to Insanity. And Tired sleep removes only a fixed amount, not the whole bar: a heavy Insanity stack takes 2–3 nights of Tired sleep to work off. The exact per-night figure is TBD.
The standard food remedies:
| Food | Insanity | Energy |
|---|---|---|
| Berry Pie | −3 | +30 |
| Beer (Tavern) | −12 | +52 |
| Croissant | −5 | TBD |
One source claims Beer does not help energy; two sources give +52 Energy, so that is the value used here. Other baked goods land in the −3 to −5 Insanity range.
Berry Pie recipe: 4 Dough + 6 Berries → 4 pies, at the Kitchen Oven.
Perks: Butcher's Son can reduce Insanity (no concrete values published). Axeman, Carpenter and Blacksmith showed no measurable Insanity reduction in testing.
Sleeping & saving
- Sleeping is the only regular save method. No manual save, no save-on-quit.
- The bed refuses sleep at full energy — spend 1 energy, then sleep. This trips up players right at story moments that advance on sleeping.
- You wake when energy is full (0→full takes about 6 in-game hours), and sleep runs the world ~50× faster without skipping calendar events.
Time scale
One day = 7.5 real minutes; a week is six days (~45 minutes) in the order Gluttony, Sloth, Lust, Envy, Pride, Wrath. Wrath is sermon day — the only day you can earn Faith via church sermons.
(The 7.5-minute day length, the six-day week and the day names are demo-era figures — flagged for re-verification.)
