Does demo progress carry over?

Yes. Your demo save continues in the full game, which released September 22 (September 23 in the Steam China region). All demo progress and save data transfer — this was confirmed in official materials and console demo listings before launch, and it is the reason the demo is worth playing rather than just a trial.

What's in the demo?

The opening section of the game: your first graveyard duties, the basic production and management loop, and the journey up to reaching The Town. It stops before the larger town-rebuilding and zombie-army systems open up.

How long is the demo available?

TBD. The demo was live from September 14 through launch. Some pre-launch sources said it would be pulled on September 22, others said it would stay up. We have no post-launch confirmation either way, so we are not claiming it is still downloadable — check the Steam demo page before planning around it.

Which platform should you play the demo on?

Play it on the platform where you plan to buy: saves carry over within the same platform ecosystem. A Steam demo save continues on the Steam full game, a PS5 demo save on the PS5 version, and so on.

Demo vs full game — what the demo held back

Everything below is confirmed from the demo build. The demo was the opening slice, so this is what it left out — not a list of patch changes:

  • Technology: the demo's tree held a fraction of the retail tree. The demo figure of 51 of 236 circulated pre-launch; post-launch sources put the retail total at 195 nodes, so treat 236 as unconfirmed (see Technology).
  • Locations: the forest, the mine and the quarry are unreachable in the demo.
  • Buildings: Embalming Table, Autopsy Table II, Crematorium II and several others are locked.
  • Zombies: max 3 extra by resurrection (one per week); the full zombie workforce (sawmill, quarry, porters, conveyor) arrives with the full game.
  • Economy: only two traders exist in the demo; town stalls and town orders are absent. Whether they exist in the retail build is TBD.
  • Sermons: capped at 10 parishioners by the demo's town-quality cap. The retail cap is unconfirmed.
  • Where the demo ends: reaching the port after the first zombie battle triggers the demo-ending prompt — sleep first, "continue" reloads your last save.
